GUNDAY - Movie Review

GUNDAY

Good one time watch with a predictable story line.

2 young boys childhood is impacted due to partition. They go through a hard childhood, doing anything and everything for basic needs. In this process, they get involved in wrong business. Boys(Bikram and Bala) grow up in streets of Calcutta becoming powerful, joining the coal mafia.

They fall in love with the same girl(Priyanka Chopra)and try to woo her in every possible way. While this is going on,there's this cop(Irfan Khan) who's only business is to get these guys behind bars and is waiting for a perfect moment to get them arrested for their bad deeds.

In one of the dance performances of Priyanka where she is dancing for Mr.India's song, a small ruffle breaks between Arjun and other guy. Arjun ends up almost killing the this guy. Ranveer suggests Bala to move out of Calcutta and hide else where untill the issue is sorted. Before leaving Arjun takes a promise from Ranveer that "He would stay away from Priyanka and would not make any moves to make her his girl".

While Arjun is away,Priyanka proposes to Ranveer stating  that "She always liked him and not Arjun".While Ranveer denies this initially because of his promise to Arjun but eventually accepts the proposal.

A guy from Arjun's team informs him about what's going on between Ranveer and Priyanka. Furious Arjun feels like cheated by his best friend, decides to teach him a lesson. Irfan gets the message that, Arjun would be coming to city during the durga pooja and he can arrest him while he tries to kill Ranveer.

While Arjun and Ranveer are fighting with each other,Irfan appears their with this team. In the process of confrontation,Irfan and Arjun point guns at each other. Unaware of the situation, Priyanka approaches Ranveer, accidentally getting shot by a bullet fired by Arjun's gun.

Arjun again escapes inspite of Irfan's chasing.Priyanka survives the accident and Ranveer request her to forgive Arjun's behaviour. Priyanka in turn suggests  Ranveer to quit his business and try to do a decent job.Growing closeness between Ranveer and Priyanka makes Arjun get more and more angrier leading to Arjun kidnapping Priyanka.

When Ranveer gets to know this, Irfan approaches him requesting to turn his friend in court and act as his witness. When Ranveer goes to court the next day morning to testify,he accidentally meets the guy who Arjun thought killed in one of the fights.Growing suspicious about this guy,Ranveer chases him but fails to catch him. However,he finds the wallet and gets to know that he is a police inspector and it was a plot by Irfan to arrest them.

In the meanwhile,Priyanka who is in Arjun's custody makes him realise that "she never loved him and she liked Ranveer from Day 1. Along with this, she also informs him that "Ranveer didn't approach me because of his promise to you and it was me who requested him to accept me". Listening to this, Arjun feels bad about the enitre situation and the way he behaved. He takes Priyanka back to City and lets her of the hook.

Priyanka instead of returning home immediately to Ranveer, meets Irfan in the Graveyard. Priyanka turns out to be Inspector in disguise specifically chosen bu Irfan for this mission. She requests Irfan to let her go of the mission as she thinks they good innocent guys and she won't be able to cheat them anymore.

Ranveer tries to reach Arjun to inform about Irfan's plan to arrest them but no go.Arjun is now attacked by his gang. Ranveer comes for rescue and saves him.Irfan also tries to attack however, they both try to escape. In the climax,Irfan and Priyanka fire bullets at Ranveer & Arjun who try to get on to the moving train.

Movie ends with this scene.

At an overall level, a good one time watch.Arjun steals the show. Music is catchy : Jashn e Ishqa & Saiyaan are my favourite.

As usual, the movie tries to share the message that "Every human being behaves or turns out to be who they are because of their situation and what they go through irrespective of what they do is good or bad"
